Mauritius Gymkhana Club

Tennis has always been considered the second most popular sporting activity after Golf at the club.

The club can boast of possessing the only Lawn tennis grounds not only in the country but in the surrounding regions.

In 1996, the MGC had the honour of hosting the first ‘International ATP Tennis Championships’ which saw Leander Paes from India winning against Fabrice Santoro of France in the Final.  This event enjoyed wide international coverage.  More recently, in 2006, we were pleased to have the visit of world class player Davidenko from Russia.

The MGC has a total of 10 tennis courts 2 of which are floodlit clay courts and the remaining 8 are grass courts, which were laid in the early 1940's and 1950's.  All these courts are very well maintained and are a subject of pride for the club.

Under the supervision of the Tennis Committee, several activities are organised. From the creation of "Ecole de Tennis" with different professional coaches offering paid training to adults as well as children.
